Motobuha Shito Ryu
Karatedo has also been known as"Seishinkai Karate".
The style was formed by combining the teachings of the Shito
Ryu Karatedo Founder, Kenwa Mabuni, and the Founder of Motobu
Ryu Karatedo, Motobu Choki. The influence of other great Karate
Masters can also be found in Motobuha Shito Ryu as Shogo Kuniba
trained with Soshin Nagamine, Ryuso Sakagami and others. One
other element that makes Motobuha Shito Ryu unique is the
influence of Yoshinkan Aikido, Judo and Jujutsu found in the
way that Sogo Kuniba interpreted the Kata.
The organization known as Seishinkai grew out of the dojo
established by Kokuba Kosei Sensei which was called Seishinkan.
Both Mabuni Kenwa and Motobu Choki taught Karate at the Seishinkan,
helping to make it a very famous and important dojo.
Originally, Seishinkai was called Seishinkai Karate
Union, then Seishinkai Martial Arts. Today, the international
branch is known as the International Seishinkai Karate Union.
The Kuniba family is no longer affiliated with Seishinkai
and have formed the Kuniba Kai to carry on the teachings of
Shogo Kuniba.
We will have more information on the history coming soon.
In the mean time, there is history here:at
