We
practice the traditional iai techniques of the Japanese
police force, Keishi Cho. This tradition was developed
during the Meiji period and is called Keishi Ryu.
Keishi Ryu is comprised of five techniques from various
sources:
1.
Mae goshi, Asayama Ichiden ryu 2.
Muso gaeshi, Shindo Munen ryu 3.
Mawari gake, Tamiya ryu 4.
Migi no teki, Kyoshinmeichi ryu 5.
Shi ho, Tatsumi ryu
The
intension was to develop a consistent and effective
technique that could be taught to the police force.
Since this ryuha was developed by a committee, there
is no "founder" or "Soke". I personally
learned these kata from Roger Werhahn Shihan of the
Nort American San Shin Kai. He in turn learned them
from Mitsuzuka Takeshi who teaches them as part of the
Muso Shinden Ryu curriculum.
We
teach these kata to beginners before they start to learn
other Iai / Batto or Kenjutsu Kata
