My first
exposure to the art of Judo was through my studies
of Goshin Budo Jujutsu under Darrell Craig, Kyoshi,
of the Houston
Budokan. This Goshin Budo system is a combination
of Judo and Aikido technique, which also includes
jodo and other technique.Mr. Craig learned this art
from his teachers within the Tokyo Metropolitan Police
Department. Mr. Craig was self defense coordinator
for the Houston Police Department.
I gained
additional training in Judo technique at the Tetsushinkan
Dojo of Ed Donnelly Sensei in Holland, OH. More training
came in Danzan Ryu Jujutsu, with the AJJF.
Danzan Ryu is a modern Jujutsu system based largely
on Judo. Yet more training came at various camps and
clinics with the National Martial Arts Association
(Sergio DeCasien)and USMAA (Phil Porter). Special
thanks also go out to countless Sensei at the many
dojo I have visited to train at.
Never
having been a formal student of Judo,
and since I already had ranking in arts
that were base on or included Judo, seperate
ranking in the art was never an important
issue. Eventually, I accepted a Shodan
ranking from Phil Porter of the United
States Martial Arts Association.
In 2004 I served
as the assistant
Judo instructor of the newly formed Judo
club at Lawlers
Kenpo Karate in Kennett Square, PA.
