The
Way To Better Judo
Frederick Paul Lowell
1st edition, 1952
The dust cover has been abused over the years but the rest of
the book is in very good-excellent condition.
At this time, Jiu-Jitsu, now Jujutsu, was very little known
outside of Japan (even in Japan for that matter). There was
not even much english languave material on Judo.
I have not been able to gather biographical information on this
author as of this date. Based on some of the terminology and
lineage stated, I assume that his training was in England, although
I believe he was an American.
The author refers to his teachings as Judi-Jiujitsu. It seems
that this was an early attempt at combining Kodokan Judo with
the older Jujutsu methods.
There is some mention of Sport Judo. But clearly a number of
the waza would have been illegal in competition.

Taichi
- "The Supreme Ultimate" For Health, Sport and Self
Defense
Cheng Man Ching
and Robert W. Smith
1st edition, 12 printing 1973
Cheng Man'Ching was probably the greatest proponent
of Taichi of his time. Smith was an accomplished martial artist
and noted author.
This collaboration was done as a re-creation of sorts of Cheng's
first English language book that did not translate well.
It seems to be still in print in paperback form. But history
buffs will appreciate this hard covered, first edition book
that is in very good condition.
